home: a poem

When the ground starts to shake

And I see pressure cracks forming

My heart beats faster and

It’s you that I run to

When the pebbles start falling

And dust covers my fingers

As I try in vain to hold it all together

I see your hands right next to mine

When I throw the rocks that have crumbled

Cursing life and the constant struggles

You look at me with compassion in your eyes

And hold me close when I stop to take a breath

When I realize my foundation is strong

That the trials I face will not break me

You’re there with trowel in hand

Ready to help me patch up the damage

And when the walls are reinforced

Stronger than ever before

You wrap your arms around me

And I know I’ve found my home
