planting, creating, and self-motivating

I’m soul-searching. Again. It is aided by new experiences and I’m submersing myself into self-reflection, meditation and positive-thinking.

Have you ever gotten to the point that you’re just tired of not being in love with your life? You look around and see other people who are, and wonder why that isn’t you? You wake up and it’s the same today as it was yesterday, you question what will make you happy, and you search for answers in your heart to explain why you aren’t pursuing your dreams.

It’s a hard thing to do, pursuing dreams.

More so now than ever, I think, but that could just be my ignorance of what it was like back in the day, a world that I wasn’t around to see and experience. Maybe I have an idyllic, almost romantic view of how things used to be. Either way, it can’t be argued that things are different now. These are the days of uncertain economic times; of high youth employment rates; of heaps of newly-trained graduates flooding the labour market; of having to choose between a false sense of stability (false is the key word there) or traversing into the unknown with just a hope and a dream that you will be better off exploring your possibilities and passion than if you were to settle.

I am starting to believe that in order to begin the process of pursuing dreams, I must first work to get out of the Funk Mindset. The “Why-Me? I-Hate-This, Anything-Would-Be-Better” way of thinking is not going to get me to where I want to be, and I don’t think it will work for you either.

Of course, you can be successful without being a positive, nice person. But who really wants to be a rich jerk? How enjoyable would that be? I don’t think I will feel accomplished in this world if I don’t exude happiness, gratuity and generousity every day. That is what I consider “success.”

With that kind of emotional success, I feel like I will have the courage and confidence to seek out my passions in life and harness what I love in order attain societies definition of “success” – financial prosperity.

Two things that I’m loving right now: YouTube meditations – especially “Creative Meditation – Meditation for a Great Day” by Andrea Schroeder, and a book that I picked up last week called “Instructions for Happiness and Success” by Susie Pearl (there are audio components you can check out on the website).

As mentioned in previous postings, another challenge that I have set for myself is to try new things. A few weeks ago I went on a 10 Thousand Coffees date with an expert (check out the Coffee Confidential that I was mentioned in!)

This week, I joined a community garden and went to a documentary screening put on by the Peterborough Community Garden Network. It was information AND delicious (free food from The Night Kitchen, Two Dishes, St. Veronus, The Venue and Fleming Culinary!Untitled

I also went to a Date Night pottery class with Sean where I got to explore my creativity and break away from routine. I haven’t been at the Kawartha Potters’ Guild studio in a long time, and it was really nice to be back and get to play!IMG_3212

Doing things like this will not only give me more reasons to enjoy life, but will also help increase my willingness to take chances.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to be more positive, or how to create and follow dreams? Do you agree that emotional well-being and positivity play a huge role in success? Share your comments below!
