I can hardly believe that it’s been over six weeks since my last real blog post. Boy oh boy, has a lot happened since then! This post is the first of a new weekly feature called “Tell All Tuesday” where I’ll be updating you on the comings and goings of my (not so) crazy life.
I’ll start with the hot topic that I’m sure you’re all wondering about: Employment
My first stop on the job hunt journey was the Employment Planning and Counselling Peterborough. Here, I met some fantastic people, including my employment counsellor, Carolyn, and Jean, who is a true inspiration. On top of having a great support network that always offers words of encouragement and support, I also took advantage of their informative workshops. If you’re looking for a career change, I would strongly encourage you to work with the team there.
I’m happy to report that things are slowly falling into place for me. I’m now working part-time for Queen’s University at a Peterborough satellite office. This is a fantastic opportunity for several reasons: 1) I get to work with kind and talented people; 2) I can use my obsession with efficiency to help make lives easier; 3) the flexibility allows me to pursue other opportunities that are on the horizon; and 4) I get to do some fun homemaker-esque tasks, which I love! I must say, I’ve gotten pretty good at making drip coffee 🙂 Maybe someday I’ll tackle the art of the French press.
Also, over the past few months, I’ve been doing self-directed learning and brushing up on my social media and HR knowledge. I completed a Social Media and Online Reputation Management diploma from Shaw Academy, and attended an Engagement and Recognition virtual conference offered by HR.com. I read The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki, and The Passion Conversation: Understanding, Sparking, and Sustaining Word of Mouth Marketing by Robbin Phillips et al., which everyone who’s anyone should read. I’ve enjoyed having time to learn and think and grow.
Some other things that I’ve done recently:
- Sean and I are on a great movie streak: we went and saw Home and Danny Collins, both which made me laugh and pulled at my heart strings. Tears did fall.
- I’ve tried TWO Thai restaurants in Peterborough: Real Thai Cuisine on the weekend, and Bualai Taste of Thai with my family a few weeks ago. They were delicious. But they left me longing for momos and thick hokkien noodles.
- I’ve cuddles lots of babies!
- I’ve tried on bling. 🙂
- I bought new Birks, but you’ll hear more about them in a future post.
So tell me, what’s new in your life?
